As part of the Ageing Well funded Te Roro project, the research team from Te Atawhai o Te Ao has recently released an influential publication entitled ‘Te Whare o Oro: A mātauranga Māori framework for understanding the roro’.
Te Roro is an innovative study that utilises mātauranga Māori as the foundation for understanding brain structure and development.
The publication ‘Te Whare o Oro’ employs the whare tūpuna (an ornately carved meeting house or ancestral house) as a metaphorical structure to allow for a deeper understanding of the complex connections and roles of the brain.
It “provides a framework based on kupu whakarite Māori [metaphor] to enable discussion and exploration of ways of viewing, discussing, and nurturing brain development, founded on mātauranga Māori.”
